I adore them! :P

Actually I do like them! I think it is a way of teaching kids that bodily functions are natural and not disgusting and harmful. I do not for one moment think that it will lead to children playing with real poo and pee, no more than the natural curiosity of the tiny child does once or twice. I can recall my niece and nephew making a very nice poo ball, which they presented to me with great generosity. I said thank you and put it back in the potty where it belonged. They only did it once and I caught them looking into the potty with future poos in the right place and looking okay with that.

Okay they may take these toys to bed but I do not think it translates to taking it from the potty to bed and when older they know the difference anyway?

Freud put forward the idea that those who cannot communicate effectively through psychosis would defecate as a gift to mentors. Okay he has been called a nutter more than once over his theories but it has some validity. Tiny children cannot communicate effectively through not being able to talk yet so a ball of poo is as good a gift as any...

There are way worse products on the market that are truly disgusting that you can get from trick shops.

These toys are just plain cute :)

I think it's vile and sick - what sort of toys will we give to our youngsters next? Piles of vomit? Cow pat? Placenta? 8-X

And why do we need our children to grow up so fast, can they not enjoy being young and innocent, they'll learn plenty about bodily functions, and quite naturally too, as we all did, they'll giggle at it being rude and make up funny words - do we really need to give them toy to help them do this? I think not.

What ever happened to teddy bears? And dolls - now that's cute - this isn't, it's just horrid

Eep! I think what makes it cute is that it preserves kiddihood, not makes them grow up.. at least that is how I saw it. Plus the toys are not realistic looking just representations translated into a cuter appearance?

That is just my take on it.

I think this joins the toy shelf not replaces it, and sits alongside dolls and teddy bears. Thing is if you look at the toys that exist they are generally educational, even dolls teach interaction or nurturing skills... or competitive and creative skills. Teddy bears teach interaction with fluffy animals and perception skills. Spinning tops and dinky cars teach spatial and world identification perceptions .... etc etc. All of those toys are responsible for growth and perception and yet they still remain cute and fun and all are popular because they induce a positive response as is intended. There are dolls that cry if you turn them over, and if you feed them with a bottle they pee after. This is simply teaching natural and acceptable processes, like the doll that pees? It shows the produce is natural, it has cause and process and the result is not something of disgust or shame.

Maybe they should make little loos for the poos to be put in, sort of poo cradles. I am not being faecestious, promise, just if they did that it would show the natural resting place for a poo is the loo, as it were. Perhaps that is a more reassuring perspective and puts the toy in context and still serves to encourage acceptance of functions?

I remember some toys that were introduced when I was a young teen, like dolls with representations of genitalia that you could see when you lifted the skirt or pulled down the trousers .. and bottled heads. And jokes shops have always sold chuckups and poo whorls that youngsters just love to leave about to trick people - parp cushions and handshakes? Potty humour has always been very popular if not exactly welcomed everywhere.

It is the differences in perception that make discussion interesting :)
