Hello,

I was wondering if anyone suffers from Restless Legs Syndrome as I think I have it.

I started getting this pain at the back of my left leg whilst sat down and it would only go if I stood up or walked about. It could get quite uncomfortable. I went to see the doctor with it the first time I had this and I was just told that I had pulled a muscle (even though I had insisted I had not and did not feel the same as a pulled muscle and it was only there when I sat down).

I looked up Restless Legs syndrome on the internet and it seemed to fit and I had a good few of the symptoms except it did not disturb my sleep (as it takes a hell of a lot to disturb my sleep as I am the luckiest person ever when it comes to sleep).
It sometimes feels like a burning sensation or I get pins & needles a lot. It does not occur all the time, I can sometimes have it for a week or two and then nothing.

It is recommended that you reduce your intake of caffeine and alcohol which I find annoying as I don't have either very much so feel a bit cheated! I do work in an office so I don't suppose that helps much.

Any suggestions to make it go away? (Apart get off my bum and do some exercise or maybe it is that simple)

Hi :)

I got this everytime I was pregnant but then I started to get it and not be pregnant
Its very very annoying and I have to basically give myself a dead leg to get rid of it and it only seems to come early evening and whilst im in bed.

I have no clue at all as to what causes it lol nor do I know a cure so I put up with it

Yeah, it drives you mad as you can't sit down but then I have to as I work in front of a computer all day so I sit there shaking my leg like a mad person.

Well I have to say the no caffeine, no alcohol does work after a fashion as you have to keep away from the stuff for a good week before it goes properly but then it still comes back!!!

There is medication I read about for it but then it is also used an anti-psychotic medication so I shall keep away from that!

Oh yes, I remember now.... a hot bath is meant to be good for it as well although I think it is pot luck really...........

Ekbom's syndrome (http://www.patient.co.uk/showdoc/40001229/) was the official diagnosis given to my ex-partner...drove us both mad at times, especially at night! There are other causes for "restless legs", so worth getting checked out by your GP.

I was like sassie, everytime I was pregnant, my legs would just run miles without me. I had to pace constantly (which is hard with a big bump) just to try and wear them out, and when I was sleeping I felt like a dog when it's dreaming about catching a rabbit in a field, and my legs would twitch like mad and drive me up the wall!

Fortunately, I am so run off my feet these days, they have given up instead and the legs just follow suit. Very annoying though and worth getting checked out if they keep up. Could be iron deficiency, calcium, all sorts of silly things that can cause it.

Hope they run out of steam soon hun!

I got it a lot with peri-menopause, really annoying. I just put it down to hormones and circulation but it passed. I think if it does not then you could just ask the NHS hotline and see what they advise?

Thanks for that, folks.

I will try different things and will let you know if I find the magic cure! :D

restless leg syndrome can drive you nuts this might not work for everyone but i find if im sitting for a long time rotating your feet in circular motions every half hour for a few minutes really helps

same at night when laying in bed also try tilting your feet forward to stretch them now and again :)
