Little T had braces fitted today. He had them put on his upper teeth and lower teeth.

Our dentist referred him as he has one wonky eye tooth at the top and one at the bottom. He has them in the same place that Mr T has his! They also both have a mole on their left palms!

Mr T had the morning off to come with us and we all went to the dentist. Little T went in on his own and was a very brave lad.

He looks so cute! Hopefully he will only have to wear them for 6 months to a year and then wear clear retainers.

Bless him.Mummy's big brave boy.

Little sounds like Mr T's clone. Give the brave little man a big cyber hug from all of the t's.

Thanks all of you.

He seems to be ok, but still finding them quite painful.

He has had to use Bonjela, which he hates and they seem to be effecting his speech a bit too. This is what we were worried about as he has speech problems from being deaf.

Should they still be sore and uncomfortable when he had them done last Friday? I don't know as I never had to have braces.

He has been wanting to eat lots of soft food, but we have been trying to encourage him to stick to a normal diet. We mostly eat Italian anyway, so lots of pastas and risottos etc.

He has been taking Paracetamol and seems ok in himself.

Tell LittleT that I can wholeheartedly sympathise :(

I always had a large gap between my two front teeth, and the two either side of that were missing from my adult set. Hereditary problem apparently. I had a brace fitted when I was about 13, but only after I had had 12 of my baby teeth removed becuase they just wouldn't come out on their own. I had to have my canines exposed on the top jaw and then pulled downwards with the brace. Ouch.

The brace gave me ulcers. Then I had the brace tightened once every six weeks for I can't remember how long. Felt like about a year. Each time they tighten it you can feel the roots of your teeth snapping from the jaw bone! Then nine months of wearing a clear retainer. I couldn't wait for the retainer because I thought yippee, no more metal mouth! But the retainer just made my teeth look like they were permantently covered in gob.

After I got rid of the retainer my teeth looked great. But gradually they all moved back!! So at the age of 19 (!!) I had to have another brace fitted, just from canine to canine on the top teeth. That killed. My top lip swelled right up and I looked like I had a cheshire cat smile. The teeth still moved back.

In the end I gave up and spent a small fortune having my front teeth filed down and capped. It's one big cap that covers four teeth so there's no more moving about!!

Best money I ever spent.

Anyway getting back on topic, if Little T says it hurts, believe me he won't be hamming it up. But it is soooo worth it in the end. Never underestimate the confidence you can gain just from being able to smile and laugh without holdiong your hand over your mouth. :D

MM I hope it all goes OK for your daughter. Luckily I never had to have a head brace. I should imagine that is going to affect her sleep?

Tell her good luck from me :clover:

poor little fella :(

It usually takes a couple of days for the discomfort to dissappear check just to make sure the wire isnt digging in to the gums or cheek as once the brace settles the wire can move position

if he really doesnt like bonjela try soothagel you can buy it in most supermarkets i believe morrisons sell it unlike bonjela it doesnt have painkiller it puts a barrier over the gums to stop chaffing it might be worth a try

phantos i read through your post and cringed poor you :(

Oh Miss Mellie, tell your little one good luck from us.

LT managed to eat 2 slices of beans on toast and a packet of crisps for lunch!

He only has two wonky teeth so hopefully it won't take too long to sort out.

Thanks for that B.

Mr T found that Corsodyl stained his teeth, so LT is using a Flouride mouthwash instead and interdental brushes. We use Dentyl mouthwash too.

We left the choice of braces up to him. We told him that even if he got into the dentists chair and changed his mind it wouldn't matter at all.

Yeah we got some of that thanks!

We had to buy a pack with dental wax, toothbrush, mirror, disclosing tablets, mouthwash, interdental brushes and advice sheet.

They said "There is a small charge for this, but we reccomend you have it".It was £8!!

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(dibuzz @ 11th April 2006 - 8:14 AM) 160045</div> You chew tham and they make plaque turn pink so you can see if you are brushing properly. As banana said, they are not a good idea for kids sensitive to E numbers. [/b]

I should think not...

I am 33 this year and still have no wisdom teeth at all.

I have one that pops through the gum sometimes at the bottom and then goes away again!
