Hi

I have just come back from accompanying hubby whilst he gave blood today (because I had a blood transfusion in 1982 they don't want mine anymore now, even though I was donating blood up until a couple of years ago,  - but that's another story!)

The session was held at a large posh local hotel - whilst I was having coffee with one of the nurses I asked why they were using the ballroom when they were normally in two rooms inside the hotel. She told me that the hotel had decided to put them into the ballroom but didn't know why. Then I learned that the cost of hiring the ballroom was more expensive than the two smaller rooms - hmmm ;) perhaps that why they were moved

Anyway - I was absolutely dumbfounded  as to why the hotel charges them at all for using their halls; the donors give their blood free, the drinks are free, the biscuits etc are free; so why do establishments feel the need to charge for the use of their halls. I can understand perhaps a nominal fee for use of electric etc......... Does anybody know the answer I'd be interested to know? I'm wondering if they have to pay for setting up their bloodmobile in a supermarket carpark too???

That's disgraceful  charging folk like that, that provide a service that can save lives

We have blood donor sessions where I work, they come for 2 days, twice a year and you can go in work time to donate blood :)

If I were the Blood Transfusion service, I'd be looking around for somewhere cheaper for the next one!

I'm shocked  . Our local hall is free of charge when we go to give blood. I have had to wait 9 months as I was not allowed to give blood until 9 months after the birth of my bubs, so have eagerly booked my next appointment for 1st June! Can't wait! I actually enjoy the experience :D , Apart from the bruises afterwards however! :(

Can't believe they charge. That's really not on for what is such a good cause and a life saving event.

Yeah I quite enjoy it too, it makes you feel good that you have done something which could save someone's life :) .

Shame on that hotel.

I used to go to sessions at a local hotel and I always assumed the hotel didn't charge. I guess it depends how money-grabbing all the local venues are.
