I went out & bought an X-box 360 yesterday, yay he says, got a load of x-box games (old machine), yay again. :D

Get it all home & spend an hour fiddling with it to set the thing up properly, pop the first game disc in & "sorry this game is not supported by x-box 360" WTF?

It now turns out that only a very small percentage of old x-box games currently work with the new machine without an update, ok says I, I flick over to the x-box360 website & grab the download, 3Mb one wasted cd later & the machine is updated, yay I say just not as enthusiastically now cause I'm starting to get a little peeved.

I pop the first game disc in again & yep you guessed it "sorry this game is not supported" :banghead:

Why oh Why does Microshaft insist on releasing things that don't work properly? afterall Sony managed to get the PS1 games running on the PS2 straight out of the box, if they can do it then Microshaft can do it too, but no I'm now stuck with a load of games I can't play & possibly (I'm going to check today) not be able to swap them for something that actually does work. :banghead:

Oh & be warned anyone who is thinking of buying an X-box 360, to play the old games you HAVE to buy the full system with Harddrive & not just the Core system as the old games will never work without the harddrive.

:o What a flamin con!!!!!! :chairhit:

I don't know where I heard this, it might have been on TalkSport radio, but I remember them reviewing and comparing the new consoles to be released (a while back now) and they were all slating this item because it would not play existing XBox games...so I stored that nugget of info in my head...

When my kids started their Xmas nagging campaign for one, I told them what I'd heard and they were all of a sudden so *not* interested  .

I think it's pretty rubbish (to put it mildly) that the existing Xbox games can't work, what a mega con. It's not as if these things come cheap, it's s'posed to be a quality product, the least it could do is play all formats. Sheesh :frown:

What a shame for you though...have any games worked at all after you updated the system?

Sorry to hear about your ordeal with your CFH (console from hell) :D

Like Mazza, I found out one of the key non-selling point with XboX 360 is that the backward compatibility is basically non existence, it wasn't part of the feature to start with. Microsoft has the habit of dictating what the users want and need, then realise the consumers do have a brain and really like to think for themselves, in which case, they will come out with "hacked" solution. They did it with Xbox when it came without a DVD playing function, which "someone" apparently found a way to "hack" it so that you can make it play DVD and rumours have it that Microsoft leak that information on purpose.

Whatever you downloaded, is probably a patch (or an emulator) that hopefully will be able to run your Xbox games.

What I heard (not confirmed) is that Sony shrunk the whole PS2 into ONE chip and put it in the PS3, so technically, it is far superior than Xbox in terms of backward compatibilty because there is an embedded PS2 in your PS3.

But don't despair, there are enough geeks out there that will eventually come out with a hack solution (probably with the aid of Microsoft) so don't Ebay the games away yet.

Watched some 360 games on demo, the graphics are v. good, so it is not entirely a white elephant :)

'Tis a real shame that Microsoft continue their flawed working 'philosophy' with their game system as well. The games I've seen on the X-Box are impressive but I wouldn't touch one with a ten foot barge pole.

This froggy is waiting for the new Playstation - ohhhh yessss!
