View Full Version : I am the world's worst
Does anyone else do this?
I buy a shower gel or a deodorant that smells Ok in the shop. I think I will really like using it and be Ok with it.
After a few uses, I get incredibly bored and heartily sick of it and go buy another one to replace it even if it isn't finished...
I end up chucking away so many bottles of things that I know it's wrong it does my head in but I just can't bring myself to use them any more!!
Either I am a spoiled brat, or too fussy, or have a problem or something!
I wonder if I need some sort of help!! :shout:

I wouldn't know Mazza. You'll probably all reckon that I'm a mucky blighter, when I tell you this, but I'm not, honest. Nor do I smell!
I rarely, very rarely use soap on any part of my body except my hands and feet. I have v. dry skin as it is and soap tends to make it worse. So, it's not a problem I would have - the smell of the stuff! Because of my skin sensitivity it's Dove, plain and simple. Without fail.
And as for deodorant, it's the most natural, unscented roll on I can find.
Perfume, however, that's another matter. I tend to find one perfume and then stick to it until the bottle's all used up. I'll keep with the same fragrance for years until either someone buys me something different or they stop making it.
To me, smells invoke memories which is why, I suspect, I stick to a fragrance I like. If ever I do use Fairy washing powder (I treat myself occasionally - but once again, have to stop after a couple of washes because of my sking sensitivity) the smell transports me right back to my childhood - Fairy Snow was the washing powder my Mum used!
I am a smellies hoarder :( I love perfumes, shower gels, bath stuff, talcs, body sprays, right now I have about 30 different perfumes on the go, at least 15 different types of shampoo, 9 different types of Impulse  and countless bottles of body lotion, body cream, hand lotion, bath salts, bubble bath, bath foam, shower gel - you name it I have it
I can't stop, I love smellies, I use one and buy 10 more ;)
As for perfume, that's my real weakness  I cannot walk past the perfume shop without buying a new one

Yes Mazza i do!!! But what it makes it worse for me is Im an Avon rep so I have a bathroom that looks like an Avon shop (and a dressing table and a cupboard and a window sill!!! ) Sometime i get so carried away when Im ordering when my delivery comes I will bag all my customers orders up and still manage to end up with a box full of smellies!! Then Mr sparrow comes home from work and spots the box I have hidden away and says who ordered that?? I always smile and say "oh it will come in handy if we forget someones birthday" !! I have four different bottles of shampoo on the go at the minute  They were all on offer you see so i had to try them!!!!! :hihi: You can guess I dont make much commission each order - i give it straight back to avon!!! ;)

Maybe you should just stick to unperfumed stuff????
I used to buy loads of smellies but now I am a Molton Brown addict, cant live without it, and when we run out and I have to use supermarket stuff, I can tell the difference totally and I hate it.
In a way I am not surprised you get bored with the smell of all the usual stuff in the shops, its all made from petrochemicals and just designed to make lots of lather, they dont give your senses a lovely lift like Molton Brown stuff does. :)

You mean it's not just me?!! My Mum's the complete opposite, she takes everything back she's not happy with.....even clothes she's brought a decade before, and she's got her money back!! I feel guilty taking something faulty back,Mum gets cross with me for it but then again, with two teenage girls in the house no smellies ever go to waste!!CN

 @sid and nancy
(thats you told mazza :P  )
Well, with a Minisp54 in the house [17 going on 27 ;) ] NOTHING gets wasted. I learnt a few years ago, having 2 older sons, that a daughter means having to hide all your nice smellies [ oh, and make up too] Be warned, you all, with younger daughters  .
Now she has just started working, it helps a bit, though I still find my 'hidden' nice stuff still goes down rather quickly
We both love Lush products. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

psst over here......ssh, don't tell him I told you but I have to hide my expensive creams (can't spell the proper word, y'know the face stuff ) from my significant other, now we're no longer young uns he keeps using it!And I can't tell him how much they cost now can I?!!
 :hihi: :hihi: :hihi: @ CN  ;)
 Three daughters means no problem on that score they take anything im fed up with
Im a shampoo hoarder im afraid if its new i have to try it
 phew, I fel so much better now I have 'fessed up to this!!
I tried the unperfumed thingies...got equally bored.
Tried being strict with myself and did manage to use up (through gritted teeth) all but 3 of the bottles, but now I am on the slippery slope again and hence today's confession!
Maybe I am a compulsive sniffer or something...I get bored of fabric conditioner too :( .
You'd easily recognise me in the shops...I'm the one sniffing all the soap powders, fabric conditioners, bubble baths, shower gels, deodorants....
PS, as for Lush, thank heavens there's not one for miles near me...I went in once and the shop assistants were seriously staring at me cos I just had to sniff every single thing...and then I didn't buy any of it anyway (cos I was being strict on myself! )
:lush:
 :hihi: I can smell a Lush shop from 5 miles away

I'm lucky enough to have 4 girls, who all nab my stuff anyhow, so if I don't like something I give it to them and go buy something else, thankfully hubby is used to it by now. I have got about 8 different perfumes on the go, depends on my mood as to which one I wear.
I am also a stickler for smelly things, my mum thinks I'm weird cos I can smell if its gonna rain, lol!!
I like nice fabric conditioners, specially the new lavender one, its gorg, love the smell of ground coffee and fresh bread, and especially cut grass..ahhhhh!
Cor blimey i'm a freak!!

The Lush stuff is fabulous :) I love it. Once bought someone a Lush gift set for Christmas and I was really loathed to hand it over  Then the worst thing was, they didn't appreciate it - it could have been a 99p bath set for all they cared :P What a waste!
As for sniffy things, I love scented candles, spend ages in the shops sniffing at them, Mr Eeyore thinks I'm mad!
So glad I'm not alone here!
I have cupboards bulging full of all sorts of smellies too; Mr Smoo thinks I'm off my nut - I say it's a woman's privilege, just like shoes - and I always remind him that I cannot possibly spend as much on toiletries as he does on tools - I just get more for my money! He certainly doesn't complain when he uses my shampoo and goes to work smelling like a bowl of strawberries, though I think his workmates might wonder.....
Eeyore - I'm another Lush addict, especially the Karma range - so woody & sensual, and I love the fact they are all natural essential oils so you don't smell like a chemistry lab half an hour after you use them!
When I get a bit bored with some of my perfumes, or feel I have too much shampoo, I just sell it - it always amazes me what people will buy on eBay - even empty bottles if they are limited edition, or little dribbles of hard-to-find stuff - and what they will pay! We recently ran away from our `NFH and are living in our caravan so space-wise I'm down to one (large-ish) suitcase of smellies, but the remainder that I sold made a surprising amount, some even got more than I paid for them!
Some people pay a fortune for aromatherapy - I just spend an hour sniffing things in my cupboard for a lift! :D
Heh, that's my reasoning too - I don't have many vices...so sniffing seems pretty harmless really!!
Can't belive people buy used shampoo and stuff on eBay - what a laff! :wow:
