Mr T and his friends played with an ouija board. Him and his friends were only 11 they contacted a bad spirit he told them one of them would have an accident (he was hit by a car 2 weeks later) and one of them would get a bad illness. (she did). Their school found out what they had been doing as a few of them were having really bad nightmares and they were taken to the local church and the Vicar performed an exorcism on them. Mr T said he felt completely different after it.

My Aunty is into ouija baords but she said it is not something you should take lightly. You must be expereinced as some spirits try to trick you.

I would never ever try I am too much of a chicken.

Oooooh, I just love tales of the supernatural :o

Although I haven't seen a ghost as such [at least I don't think I have] I have several times heard or felt spirits. Most of these were when I was a nurse, and hospitals are well known for being a 'hot bed'[no pun intended] of spirits.

I have also been to a medium, twice in the last 3 years, and am absolutely certain that there is life after death. :)
My experiences with the medium were totally amazing and life changing, and I know that my parents, brother, several other relatives, and a friend who died aged 23, are all aware of what is going on in my life since they died. They are together, they are happy, and know things happening now when they passed away many years ago in some cases. It was a very uplifting and comforting experience. It took me 20 years to pluck up the courage to go  but I am soooooo glad I did.

About 14 years ago we saw something we couldn't explain, 4 friends and I were in our town on a Friday night (no we hadn't been drinking!) and decided to take a short cut by the river banks. We were high up from the river behind the cathedral when the clock chimed 11(pm) and all the lights on the path went out :o About 20 metres in front of us was this white mist that covered the path, about 8 foot high, we all stood and watched it, and we all felt so cold even though it was late summer. The mist suddenly began to pull together as if forming a shape, yet around was all clear, it was then that we turned and ran, didn't stop until we got to the car, then we drove to my friends house really quickly. About an hour later we calmed down, and went back into town and back to the path, the path was clear, the lights were on, you could see right down the hill to the river, there was no mist at all.

A few years later we heard tales of people who'd seen the grey lady on that path, and I'm convince we saw "something" pleased we didn't stick around though ;)

I have never visited a medium (I might one day if i get the courage). But I did have one as a customer. One day when I walked into his house he said everytime I see you, you have a man with you. I asked what he looked like he said he stands very straight and he looks at you very lovingly. He said he was wearing a suit which was uncreased (perfectely pressed) and his shoes were really really shiney, like they has just been polished.

I told my Mom when I got home and she said it sounded just like her Dad, he was immaculate with his appearance and always polished all of their shoes every day. He died when I was 2. I would love to think he was my gardian angel.

he used to move things and i always felt his prescence at night when i went to bed i would feel someone stroking my hair it never scared me i always felt calm even when i saw him walk in the room one night i just smiled at him

a spiritualist told me it was my uncle and he asked her if i was aware that he was around and whether i had seen him and knew that he moved things around so i told her yes

he hasnt been back since which is a shame i kind of miss him

I have never actually seen anything but I've had a couple of unexplained experiences....about 15 years ago now I used to do nightshift in an old folks home, there were only seven residents, five ladies and two men so at night only two staff members were needed, a sleeper and one awake. One particular evening, about 4am, I was ironing , I kept having the feeling like somebody was behind me but all the residents were asleep. One lady of 94 who was completey the full shilling rang her buzzer, when I went to see why she said for me to tell Harry to stop knocking her door and calling her name, I told her Harry was asleep and settled her back down, then re checked both our male residents who were fast asleep. This happened a few more times, each time I reassured her and settled her back down. At 7am it was time for me to finish my shift and wake the sleeper up who hadn't heard a thing. I found out later on that day, that the resident died that morning in her sleep.I wander now if her late husband had been calling her? CN

I had an encounter with a ghost (cat) once. Although I didn't actually see it, I 'felt' it.
Because it was a hot summer day, I was in the bathroom, washing my face. I felt a cat brushing against my legs. Thinking it was my cat, I looked down but the cat wasn't there. I thought it strange, but I figured it gave me a quick, friendly greeting & left. I got out of the bathroom and went back to the living room, to see and hear my cat meowing to be let in. I asked my mum if she let the cat out few minutes ago; she said no, the cat was outside for about an hour or so. Then I just remembered about a year ago, my sister had to put her cat down because it had a heart disease. When it was healthy, my sis and her cat would stay at our house often. So I phoned my sister and asked when did your cat die; she checked the calendar and it was exactly a year ago to the date that she had to put her cat down. We were absolutely amazed & a little sad at the same time. Imagine that, a cat comes back to say 'hi' on its 1st anniversary of its death. One thing that puzzled us was why did her cat decide to visit me instead of her.

Coppernob, as a former nurse, I have had many, many similar experiences to the one you decribe. I also had a similar experience with my late mother in law just hours before she died. Very, very moving, and strange experiences

Great poll, DG! :)
If I told you half the things I've seen or experienced, someone would have me locked up or burnt at the stake! Lots of things went on when we were renovating our last house, but I put that down to disturbing an old property because I couldn't find anything else logical. I am still very skeptical; I will do my utmost to find a rational explanation for things, refusing to believe they are anything spooky if I possibly can (or am I just a coward?). Strangely enough, I've never actually been scared, just either bewildered or amazed.

Actually, to tell one "tale" - I've never been quite so bewildered as the night I found myself in the graveyard, where I did indeed find my late grandmother's wedding ring that I had lost about 100 miles away a few months before; I just "felt" that I had spoken to her and she had told me she'd "brought it back" and lectured me not to be so careless in future. I have never even seen a picture of her (she died long before i was born and there are no photos at all from that side of my family, her ring is literally all we have) yet I described her perfectly to my mother who went chalk white and backed away from me. Hmmm. All sounds rather silly when I put it down now - but I'm still tryig to rationalise that one. And I have taken great care of her ring - I don't want anything like that to happen again!

PS - hospitals, homes and dying - *shiver*, I know a few nurses who report similar things Coppernob & sp54. There must be SOMETHING in it, I''d just rather not know too much sometimes methinks :D

I'm biased as hubby is a medium. Its fascinating to watch him working, he seems to be very accurate (including telling me about stuff from my childhood that I'd never mentioned to him)

The only drawback is the occasional visitor we get. I've 2 spooky photos of him at home taken with the same camera in the same position within seconds of each other( you know, take another for luck type photo). I one he is surrounded by a mist while the other is perfectly clear

Still, makes life interesting

Hi sp54, after that experience , I believe in life after death and like you, know about two other experiences of relatives who have died after saying someone had came for them, it gives hope in a way, dosen't it? Ooh Rb2002, I'd be freaked  .My Mums Gran died a year after I was born but I never met her.I'm obsessed with my family tree and was looking into Mum's line.We decided to visit Mum's Gran's former home, the Lady who lives there now very kindly let us in, she had been looking into the history of the house as she felt there was a presence. We sat in the front room, all the time I felt somebody was near me and very cold on one side. When we left, the lady asked Mum if she could bring some photos of her Gran sitting in the house round to show her which Mum did the next week.Since the day that I went round, the lady said she hadn't felt the presence since!! We've just had an odd experience ;)

Sitting at Eeyores mams house and she has one of those chameleon phones (you know the one, off the TV advert where it's a chameleon and it dances to Karma Chameleon)

Well the phone was switched off, has been for ages now (as it gets to you after a while) and suddenly it started ringing and playing the tune and dancing :o The normal phone didn't ring and Eeyores mam checked it - and got the dial tone - we checked the chameleon, and he's switched off - how bizarre ;)

Rb2002  I am impressed that your hubby is a medium :notworthy: My two experiences with a medium have been so amazing I could be here al night telling you stories. I was told things also that meant nothing at the time, but the medioum said they may be related to close family. Sure enough, when I asked my sisters and brother about the things I didn't unerstand it all came clear. For example, it looks as though my late father is keeping an eye on one particular sister  . The first visit my Dad came through and the medium said he was telling her someone was very ill with a bad throat - so bad they hadn't been able to talk etc. I knew nothing of this, but went home and phoned one of my sisters and said 'how are you' and she replied that she had been really ill with the worst throat infection she had ever had  :o . Likewise, on the second visit, my Dad was trying to tell me someone in the family had experienced bad flooding - he was saying water, water, gushing everywhere. Again, it meant nothing. Went home, phoned the first sister again, asked after her, and she said they'd had a burst pipe and their bungalow had been flooded, with loads of damage occurring :o  Another occasion, my Grandmother said she had been with us at a recent big family event, and how much she had enjoyed it  She described accurately the outfit one of my sisters was wearing on that occasion, and the medim looked around to find a colour to show me. She found something that was the EXACT colour of the accurately described outfit. It had been my sisters sons wedding, and apparently, there were a few 'unseen' guests there

CN, I have experienced people close to death 'seeing' their loved ones [dead ones  :o ] many, many times. Ok, some people say it was the drugs causing hallucinations, but not all of them were on drugs to start with, and why would they all see the same vision of someone they had lost?
When my MIL died, we were all around her bed as we knew the end was getting close. She was fully conscious still, but suddenly her face lit up and she smiled and pointed to the end of her bed and said 'Mum and Dad, what are you doing here?'.  We all looked at the vacant foot of the bed, and then each other :o. She died a few hours later.

sassieb, it is funny you should mention touch lamps...

My best friend's dad had a funny experience a couple of months ago. He was in his bedroom looking at himself in the mirror, when he heard a voice right in his ear, saying "turn it off twice" and immediately the two touch lamps on either side of his double bed turned themselves on by themselves!.

He is probably the most down to earth person i have ever met, not prone to flights of fancy in the slightest. His wife was downstairs at the time.

Both my wife and me would see a dark shape 'whoshing' down the stairs and into our sitting room on a regular basis but neither of us ever mentioned it to the other for years. There was a bedroom which we were never really comfortable in and this became little CFTB's bedroom.

One day my wife was looking through her photo album and there were some pictures of her grandmother. Little CFTB was no more than 3 and the lady had died many years before. He came over, looked at the pictures and said "She comes to see me when I'm in bed." When my wife asked him who it was he just said she was a nice lady. My wife asked him if anyone else came to see him and he said that a man would sometimes come and tell him to get out. She asked if he was scared and he said "No. The nice lady always tells the man to go away and he does."

We've moved now and it's only since we left the house that we realise there was an uncomfortable atmosphere there.

I suppose it's fair to say there are no presences in our new house and 'the lady's' job was done as she no longer visits.

S'funny old world.

I didn't used to believe in ghosts/spirits, and was still sceptical after I'd been to a medium with a friend who didn't want to go by herself  . This lady told me a load of stuff that she couldn't possibly have known and said there was a lady sitting by me who was taking care of me  . She described the spirits earings which were my maternal grandmothers, she always wore them and they fascinated me. I have a scientific background, so I need some sensible reasoning before I believe in things.

I now believe because I have seen a ghost. My dog had a form of cancer that was untreatable and I had to have her put down. I held her in my arms while she went to sleep. We buried her in the garden under a beautiful old apple tree. She occasionally sat there if I was gardening, but her usual place was in the farmyard on the other side of the house where everything was going on. For the next three days I could see her either sitting under the tree or with her paws on the window sill of the sitting room which was on the garden side of the house. She was obviously curious as to why she was out there and not indoors with us. She gradually faded and I stopped seeing her, but I could still feel her presence and hear her claws clicking on the quarry tiles in the kitchen. Every time I stopped I expected her nose to bump into the back of my knee as it used to.

When my partner died last September  , I could hear him breathing next to me in bed for a while. Also, his maps threw themselves at me in the office (I work at home) . They'd been on the same shelf for ages and there was no reason for them to move. His panama hat would fall on me as I passed. But the weirdest was the answering machine in our bedroom, about three weeks after he died it rang in the middle of the night and the message was set off in his voice. The other phones in the house hadn't rung and the answering part of that particular phone hadn't worked for over eight years. We just used it as a phone and alarm clock. I still hear his key in the door and get woken up by his voice saying something. The things have stopped moving about since I rang a psychic medium and made arrangements to go and see her.

My partner was a Software Engineer specialising in telecoms and satellites. He was very into communication and I think he is trying to get my attention :phone: :mobile:  :geek: .

Cor Blimey, I'm covered in goose bumps!!

I am intrigued by the whole ghost/spirit world and whilst I do believe, i'm also a little skeptical.

I have seen one ghost, although he didn't look like a ghost, it was a person who just vanished into thin air, I used to work in a hotel reception and it was late at night, he came to the desk, I looked up (I wasn't expecting anyone cos it was so late) and called be with you in a minute. I put the gameboy down (had been playing spiderman lol) and stood up and there was no-one there. Well I panicked and called the night porters over who did a full search of the lobby and stairs area and they found nothing. It spooked me because I had other things happen to me there.

Once the phone was ringing in reception, it was one of the rooms, so I answered it but no-one was there. Something was familiar though but I couldn't put my finger on it, so I just carried on with my work. Then my sister came and had a coffee with me and asked me what the light was on the switchboard, I said someone must have knocked the phone off in their room because it had been like that for some time. She looked at me with shock and said "thats your room!!" Oh my god!! I was a bit scared! Anyway when I went up and checked there was nothing wrong with the phone and it was still on its hanger.

A few weeks after this I had been on a late shift and finished at 11pm, I was due to start again at 7am so I climbed into bed after setting my alarm and started to drift off to sleep. No sooner had I got comfy, when my radio on my alarm clock went off really really loudly. Again I tried to be rational and decided I must have set it wrong, but then I realised that when the alarm goes off I have it on buzzer, cos if its just on radio i tend to ignore it.... scary

I have been to spiritualists before in a group setting, not thinking I would be read, but did get a reading. This really old woman was telling me stuff that didn't make sense, she starting singing mary had a little lamb and I thought oh my god she's gone loopy! But when I told my mum the blood drained from her face, she told me that my great gran was called Mary, and the little lamb was my sister, she used to follow her everywhere when she was a baby and all of Mary's friends used to sing that song to her!! Then she told me that Herbert was looking after me, again, who's herbert?? I found out that it was my late grandad, my mums dad who died when she was 9 years old!! And she even told me that my daughter had the same birthday and name as my nana! Which she does!!!

I do like that sort of thing but its a little scary sometimes.

More recently I went to another spiritualist who told me he had my dad with him, so I was like yeah yeah, but then when he said he was sat on a tank with his mate Norman I started blubbering on the spot, my dad was in the army and we have a picture of dad and norman, who died just after my dad, sat together on top of a tank!! He got to me by saying my husbands name, which is quite old-fashioned, but then he called him by the name we all call him by (no not a swear word lol) and that got my attention because people don't generally shorten his name this way!

He also told me that I have an aura about me and that I had been catching his eye all night because I have lots of bright colours surrounding me, he said I was a good person and had many people on the "other side" that we always there if I needed them, so I was hugely comforted by that!!

Sorry if I babbled on a bit, but like I said, I love it!!

Oh and the telly turned itself on the other day (and no it wasn't on standby)!!

I haven't told all about my late partner. On saturday mornings, about the time he would have been getting dressed after his bath, I get a whiff of his aftershave. Really weird, as it doesn't happen at any other time.

Miss M,

I believe in guardian angels but I think they are our dead relatives keeping a watch on us.

As for the supernatural, very natural and a scientific reason for them. Short but boring reason. We are made up of atoms which are made up of electrical charges. Realistically we should not be able to see anyone or anything. A spirit is the electrical energy (simplification) left when the body has died. Our soul, that has been with us from when ever we became a person (before or after birth according to belief).

I definatly believe in ghosts and spirits :D

I'm a developing medium (my gran was a medium) and have been reading and researching the "paranormal" for a few years now and am soon to be doing a parapsychology degree (ooer mrs lol)

I also have an investigation team and have investigated a few spooky places over the years
the scariest place I have ever been is the ancient ram inn and I swear I will NEVER set foot back inside that place after the night we spent there. I've also spent a night in the underground vaults in Edinburgh, very surreal experience LOL.

I've always seen ghosts and spirits and have several "visitors" in my house and it's just par for the course when something goes missing here as it usually turns up a couple of days later LOL

I most definatly believe in ghosts my house was built in 1862 and when my son was a couple weeks old my hubby saw a little boy dressed in victorian clothing standing looking into the cot  things also disappear and turn up in different places my son also saw a ghost in his bedroom the night after his great nan died. He saw a person identical to my dad smiling at him he had gone to bed very upset that night as he was very close to his great nan my dad is still alive but he had a twin that died at birth we are convinced it was dads twin that came to comfort him :)
A very strange thing happened to me also i had picked my car up from the garage my husband was driving in front of me on a very busy dual carriage way i was driving along bout 60 when my bonnet flew up smashing the windowscreen and blocking my vision :o .The garage had not shut it fully
I managed i dont know how to stop the car cause i couldnt see a thing the car behind me stopped too i felt like someone was in the car with me taking control if that makes sense
I decided to follow this up because i was so convinced someone was watching over me even the man in car behind could"nt believe how i stopped so well it such a busy road it could have been nasty
I consulted a medium by email no name or address or anything about me she described my mum"s grandad down too a tee even too the fact he smoked cigars she said it was someone that had been very close to mum who had since passed over but he was watching over us and he was with me that day :) i a firm believer i sensed someone with me and what she said just confirmed it :D

I'm open minded but have never seen a Ghost. Not sure if I'd like to, to be honest.

My girlfriend told me that before she met me she felt something pushing her down whilst she was in bed and poking her in the back. She to this day isn't certain if it were something not of this world or if it were just an odd muscle spasm that was misinterpreted due to her being sleepy.

I also heard a couple of reports of a Dog matching the description of my Nan and Grandads (who had at that point sadly died a short while earlier) one that had died a couple of years before. It was spotted by a couple of people running up the stairs of my Nan/Grandads old house - the thing is the people who spotted it barely knew my Grandparents nevermind knew about the old Dog they had.

So it's certainly not something I'd write off.

An old man said to my wife a few years back: My word! Your Alsatian must be getting on a bit, now! I often see her looking out of the window onto the lane! She's looking well, though!"

She nodded and said: "Yes, she is doing very well." Whilst thinking "Yes, excepting that she died five years ago!"

But my wife (and myself) also saw her a number of times. Interesting that someone else did, too, someone who did not know she was dead.

I used to be a serious sceptic. I would try things to disprove them to a degree. I always used to (and probably still do) try to look for scientific explanations for things but over the years there have been so many things that we have experienced that can't be explained in any scientific way that I just accept for the most part that humankind's current level of knowledge is sorely lacking.

I don't think of myself as particularly spiritual, sensitive or gifted so how I have had certain experiences is beyond me - so I accept it. I also find the whole 'unexplained' and supernatural thing to be incredibly interesting and would love to understand it much more.

Most experiences have been positive or fascinating but there is one in particular that I am very wary of.

I noticed in the poll that Ouija boards were mentioned. I would not recommend anyone go near these unless they are experts IMHO. Many, many years ago I tried this. It was sloiw going at first and then I came across an entity of some type that posed as the relative of someone very close to me. This entity knew things that I had never been told that I could have confirmed - very personal stuff. Even then I was sceptical and asked more questions that demanded explanations or proved facts. I became obsessed with the board - imagine feeling you had doorway to 'the other side' after yearws of being sceptical - the feeling was amazing, a revelation.

Unfortunaterly after a very friendly start it all started to go bad after a couple of weeks, starting out with odd comments that led to dark and then even darker suggestions and demands. Unlike the slow wait for a response and slow moving planchette, after a week of doing this the planchette would 'work' immediately and move so fast around the board that I had to use a micro-cassette recorder while I called out the letters so I could check which letters I had spelled out. I was the only one using the board at this point by the way.

A few years ago I found an old cassette that I must have missed when I destroyed everything. When I played it I was shocked to hear the speed of the planchette's metal studs scrapping away as it sped across the wooden board. The letters would be called out so fast that I could barely keep up and catch my breath. In the end it became clear that this was all going horribly wrong so we destroyed everything, or at least thought we did.

I learned a lot from that experience, good and bad. Whatever it was I think it was some mischevious thing that found a gullible so-and-so to trick for a short while. I don't even assume it was a 'human' spirit - a friend once suggested the possibility that there were all sorts of flotsam and jetsam of the spirit world, unattached things that are just 'there' waiting to play pranks on people. It was just a theory but interesting to debate.

On a lighter note, I do Tarot readings sometimes. I'm a complete amateur who just lays out the cards and read out the definitions in a book. For something so basic it is amazing to find that the readings are always specific to people's very personal circumstances and are accurate 90-100% of the time!  You are not supposed to try to trick the cards by doing the same reading over and over again but I have tried (in the interest of science  ) and it will always give the same message for that persons circumstances - over and over again (with a variety of the same and similar meaning cards). Wierd and amazing at the same time. This works with specific questions as well as general overviews of someone's life. I have even tried this over the phone AND by email and it has still worked! I don't understand it but it's certainly very interesting.

Oooh how interesting Mr Ribbit! I must say I don't think I could ever go near a ouija board.

I've got a pack of tarot cards somewhere, I bought them when I was a teenager but never really put the effort into learning what they all meant. I would look them all up in a boo, like you, but never had anything particularly meaningful come out. You must have natural talent for channelling these sorts of things!!

I think our ghost hs a penchant for stealing washing. I swear my socks are all present and correct in their respective pairs when they go iin the washing machine, but once they come out... there's always at least one missing.

Thinking about it... I'm kinda glad the new people next door are a bit noisy - now if I hear anything strange at night I just blame it on them instead of getting freaked out :-)

Years ago I use to live with a ghost. The dog I had then, once started growling, all the hairs on her back went up and her eyes were following something at the other end of the room, but I couldn't see anything there. However I had my tarot cards read and the man said I must never use a ouija board because I'm very sensitive to that sort of thing. He also said I would have 2 children by different fathers, I'm still waiting for the first and I think I've gone pass my sell by date :hihi:

Totally believe in ghosts and the paranormal, although I have never seen a ghost I have had lots of strange experiences.

This is such a fascinating subject!

When I lived in Jakarta I stayed in a block of apartments in the room directly above a work colleague. He was Hong Kong Chinese. I'll call him K.

One night - I guess it must have been about 02:00 - I woke up to find the room cold (odd in Indonesia) and what looked like a cloud of vapour forming beside my bed. I am sure it almost looked like an Indonesian building worker. As I woke up more fully it disappeared and I just put it down to waking out of a very odd dream, or perhaps, just a trick of the light. I said nothing about it to anyone.

A few days later K was obviously quite shaken up when he arrived at work. He described almost exactly what I'd seen.

We later found that numerous people had died during construction of the apartment block. This is not unusual as safety standards are very low and life is cheap out there. One fatality had been in the part of the block K and I were living in.
