Just putting some washing out on the line and stood mesmerised as a red admiral butterfly investigated the rotary drier.

Then I thought - hang on, it's almost Christmas!

Is this normal for red admirals to be out at this time of year?

hi mu

no it isnt normal maybe its because we have had a fairly mild winter so far i noticed two days ago that the cherry tree in my garden has hardly shed any leaves either thats weird

at least it means i havent had to rake them up though

I've noticed quite a few reports of this lovely butterfly being seen in December - and even one from yesterday. It's not unheard of for them to be around this late in the season but there seem to be more than usual this year.
