View Full Version : NFHiB Arcade Games
Hi
I have recently been playing the games in the arcade, in fact quite frequently; tonight my computer started to play up whilst playing "Blocks"; I decided to run my "spyware doctor" and was astonished to find that I had 176 infections on my computer!!! A list of approx 90% were associated with the games that I had been playing over the past few days; the infections were listed under a heading of "affilliated with browser hijackers".
Has anyone else had this problem can you tell me please? I'd be interested to know as I notice that the Arcade site was "re-set" a couple of days ago and there are now new games available, many of which I have played. Must say I have never had this problem before the new ones were added.............
The infections have now been quarantined  I sometimes get the odd one or two but 176? Poor old system must have been really sick
Cheers
Omega
Hi Omega :D
I am glad that you have been enjoying the arcade, it's great!!
I am sorry that you are experiencing problems though :( . I am not all that clued up on viruses and stuff but personally I have not had any problems at all since the new games have been added - I run a really old banger of a computer and it will never fail to complain if it doesn't like something!! :badpc:
The scores get reset periodically to give newcomers to NFHiB a fair chance at getting onto the champ boards, it has never caused any problems in the past.
I just wanted to reassure you and everyone that the Admin & Support team here takes stringent care to make the site as safe and secure as possible - in fact they really do go beyond the call of duty in that respect :notworthy: .
I will flag this message up to them though in the hope that someone will get back to you with further advice and/or reassurance because I don't have too much tech experience when it comes to infections and things!!. :) .
Take care meantime,
mazza ::D
Hi :D
Thanks Mazza; it really is so strange  as I said have never had problems before so do not know what has gone wrong; I have contacted my "knowledgeable and trusted computer man"! to see if he can help. I think it is a good idea to reset scoring periodically as you say then everyone has a fair chance of getting on the "highest scoreboard" at least once, as I have found out there is always someone behind you waiting to knock you off the top by getting a few points more than you!!!!!! That's the fun of it all :fun: !!
The arcade pages have given me lots of enjoyment in the past few weeks especially when there's nothing on the telly; and I am sure it gives a lot of enjoyment and also an escape to people who are still suffering with NFH on a regular basis. I feel so lucky now that we were able to sell up and move to a lovely area with great neighbours; my heart goes out to all those who are not so lucky.
Merry Xmas :newyear:  to you and all the NFHiB team you are all brilliant in what you do :notworthy:

Hi Omega :)
Thanks for raising your concerns and you were right to post them so we could look into it further. Apologies for the delay in a response, but I wanted to check this out thoroughly to make sure there are no arcade problems or issues.
As mazza has said, the safety and integrity of the NFHiB forum is our top priority and to that end, we examine every aspect of safety at nfh.org.uk under a microscope - from tech issues to forum member issues, all are equally important.
Your scanning software is most likely associating the Google Ad Content we have displayed at the top of the forum with the Arcade games or other parts of the forum board and then probably incorrectly associating the ad content with possible browser hijacking codes. This is similar to reports that Anti-Virus software/applications sometimes give, when warning you of a virus, when occasionally none actually exists. Google Ads are entirely safe (as you'd expect from a highly reputable company) and don't contain any malicious code or browser hijacking scripts, etc that can compromise or 'attack' your web browser.
Often, unscrupulous web advertisements do sadly contain these annoying and pesky associations, but we would not display any advert here that would knowingly include a 'browser hijack'. For instance, if we discovered there was such an advert, we would discontinue it immediately.
It is extremely unlikely that any malicious code or content has ever been placed into a 'flash' based game such as the arcade games here are at NFHiB. I can also assure you that the NFHiB Arcade is also completely safe to use.
But, as always, it is good practice to run up to date Anti-Virus software and other scanning programs regularly that have a good reputation/usefulness - you can never be sure what's out there thesedays.
But, just to reassure you that at NFHiB, we spend many hours ensuring the site and forum are safe, secure and accessible and check as many different possibilities as we can on a regular basis.
I hope this helps reduce any worries you have and enjoy the arcade. B)
Thanks for the input Matthew, it makes sense to me  .
I hope you are a lot more reassured Omega and thanks very much for all your kind words! :salut:
