Eeeek! Have suddenly remembered I've invited my daughter in law's parents and sister over for dinner tonight.
I don't have time to go to the shops for anything as a mega-tidy up is required if I'm to receive guests in about 3 hours time.
Main course is sorted - I have some beef in the freezer and root vegetables in the fridge so I'll do a good old fashioned stew with lots of garlic and red wine.
It's the pudding that's the problem. Looking around the kitchen, I have a pineapple, loads of bananas, some apples and lemons. I have the standard stuff in the cupboards, flour, eggs, sugar etc.
I'm thinking pineapple and banana crumble. Would this combination work or is there anything slightly more exciting and quick please?
Answers are required in a hurry!

That would work as long as the pineapple and banana mixture in the bottom isn't too soggy. Otherwise the cumble mixture in the top might soak into the moisture before it has a chance to cook.
Give it a go - you never know. Have you gto any ice cream in the freezer as a fallback?

Thanks - keep 'em coming. Can't do the fritter bit as I don't have a deep fat fryer. Stew is just about to go in the oven. That can cook on a low light. No icecream in the freezer because the kids have eaten it all!
Kitchen has had its quickest clean through ever. Now for the bathroom and living room! I'm such a clutz - have a dreadful memory and should have looked at my diary earlier!

Good luck Miss U! :) Sounds like you have everything under control. B) :eat:
I was going to say fritters too, or a good one, as we call it, is "boozy fruits" (named after my mums NFH), put a bit of butter into a pan, fry the fruit (pineapple in first then bannana) then add sugar (brown if you have it) to make a toffee sauce, and if you like, add a touch of flaming brandy at the last momoent, looks impressive if carried to the table like that - serve with cream, delicious and only takes 5 mins

Phew! Over and done with and all eaten up! Thanks for all the suggestions.
Did the crumble in the end. Banana, fresh pineapple, lemon juice, touch of brandy, smidgeon of white wine and brown sugar and then the topping. Finished off with fresh homemade custard.
Was surprisingly delicious and all got eaten up :)
They have gone now, bless them. I think I must have deliberately forgotten about them coming. It's not that I don't like them or anything, it's just it always seems so Difficult. I love my daughter in law (my son married her a couple of months ago and they live here with me). She's a real treasure. But, she's from Foreign Parts and, although her English is exceptional, there's a bit of a language barrier with her father - his English is very poor. she and her mother have to do a lot of translation which gives these great long pauses in conversation whilst that translation is made.
Coupled with the fact her mother could wear a worn out, flea ridden hairshirt and corner of a tatty sack and still look stunning, I always feel frumpy, old and poorly dressed whenever they are in the house!
This is one of the few times I miss having a husband around to help out!
I am willfully leaving the washing up for the kids and am indulging in one of those wonderfully stress busting v. large gin and tonics - Cheers!
I'm glad it went well Miss Understood :D
