I'm turning a few vases into table lamps - we're doing an antiques fair and I want lighting that fits in with the ceramics we'll be selling. Anyway, I want some of those brass wotsits that the bulb sits in, but with the electrical wire coming out at the side of the wotsit, rather than out of the bottom (which would mean running the wire through the vase and drilling a hole in the bottom of it).

Are you following me? The brass thing that you stick a bulb in is what I need. I can get plastic ones that fit into wine bottles for some reason, but not proper brass ones for vases.

I don't know what they're called - funnily enough, going into B&Q and asking for a bulb wotsit didn't work. There's nothing in the local DIY stores, and I don't know where to look on the Internet.

I'm a bit stuck...

Hi

I converted an antique acid bottle into a lamp ( huge thick glass that looks like a ball). I went a bought a some cork mats, glued them together to fit the hole and then went to a specialist electrical shop and bought the brass fitting. made a hole in the cork and 'Voila' ....

Please dont ask me the name, it's a 'thingy' to me too!!

Thanks you guys... I am now on the right track.

Having found fittings for the few vases I already had to make into lamps, I have caught the bug and want to convert all sorts of things. I've got two very ornate brass candlesticks and I'm doing those.

We may not have anything to put flowers in now, but our home is going to be very well lit!
