Britain is expected to get soaked tonight with torrential rain about to batter parts of the country, sparking fears of flash flooding.
Met Office forecasters say much of the country could suffer severe downpours from this evening.
East and south-west Scotland are most likely to be hit, with up to 100mm of rain predicted to fall.
Drivers are being warned that conditions on the roads will be dangerous, with some floods, and a severe weather notice has been issued.
A spokesman said: "Rainfall totals will reach 50mm in many places, perhaps locally as much as 100mm, the risk of this being greatest across higher ground, particularly south-west Scotland.
"Driving conditions will become dangerous and localised flooding is possible, especially in Scotland given the recent heavy rain."
The heavy showers are expected to ease off by tomorrow afternoon, moving north-eastwards in the meantime.
While Scotland looks likely to be worst hit, there is a 50% chance that Northern Ireland, Wales, and north and south-west England will also suffer.
The west of Scotland was battered by severe storms back in January, when five members of a family were killed as they fled their flood-hit home on South Uist.
