View Full Version : Home Made Bread
I am feeling very chuffed with myself today...
I have always wanted to make my own loaf of bread but never ever did it...until today! :chef:
I have had a loaf tin gathering dust in my cupboard for years () !!
Well, it all went very well, littlest mazza got stuck into the kneading and made a huge mess everywhere, but hey, what's a pile of flour all over the place in the grand scheme of things??
Anyway, the end result was very well received...it did stuck to the tin a bit but was largely intact ;) .
And the comment from everyone was 'it's deee licious!!'
I am fairly pleased with that!! B) :eat:

Ooh mazza home made bread is so lovely and comforting. I bet you really enjoyed it. :)
I used to make it sometimes, with special mixes from the supermarket. We had olive bread, chili bread, you name it. Yum :)
Don't really get time these days which is a shame (and supposed to be cutting down on the bread intake anyway). When I win the lottery and become a lady of leisure I'll take it up again. :D
hi mazza
good for you  there is nothing quiet like fresh baked bread
im one of those lazy people that let mr kingsmill do the work for me
Aw thanks all...I just had to tell someone as I've always wanted to make bread!! :D
It's all gone, not one crumb left...I hope it won't take me another thirtysomething years to make my next loaf!!
(as for the breadmaker...well, it's at the back of my kitchen somewhere, thick with dust and grease and propping up letters, magazines and bags of crisps ...It's soon to be heading for a car boot sale - cleaned up of course! ;) )

Just hang around the bakery section of tesco sniffing alot!!! If they made a fresh bread cooking air freshner i think i would buy one.
I just love the smell. My hubby went through a phase of baking bread and it was fabulous. Especially when it was just out the ovenhttp://bestsmileys.com/eating1/23.gif

Nothing better that the smell of freshly made-bread  I've never owned a loaf tin, never mind a bread-maker - but I can make a mean loaf nevertheless ;). Love all the varieties/shapes you can make shown here (http://www.botham.co.uk/bread/bread1.htm), even if you have no tin :D (a wire rack is imperative though!)

I make our bread in a machine, the smell is hypnotic and you almost can't wait for it to cool down before you pull the loaf out of the tin!!
I'm dieting at the moment, so no bread for me  I do miss it though

That's a great link sapph :D .
I was told that bread is an excellent source of B vitamins too, and there was no fat added at all to my recipe (it's added to shop stuff  ) .
I must try a round (cottage??) loaf - at least it won't stick to my tin then!!
Great idea...I can't belieeeve I never thought of it before!!!
Mind you...will the dough slip and drip under the wire rack??
(mazza, very much a novice )

 Wire rack for cooling purposes only - didn't put that very well did I?
The cottage loaf is great - nice and easy, and no sticking to tins, and I did used to love trying to get a perfect plaited loaf too - see here (http://www.4ormore.co.uk/projects/harvestbread.htm), and impress friends and family ;)
Sapph :)
