Skin Installation for Invision Power Board (IPB), Version 2.0
Uploading and installing skin sets for IPB 2.0 is very different to 1.2 and 1.3 versions of the forum software. It has two different initial steps. Read on for more help and information.
Unzip the .zip file package and upload via your browser
After you have downloaded your 'skin pack' from NFHiB or other source(s), follow this information.
1. After downloading your skin package it will most likely/most often be in the Zip file format. This is easier as you only have to download one package and there's other files inside. Unzip the Zip package using Winzip or similar to your hard drive folder.
Ensure two files have been extracted that start with 'ipb_skin-' and 'ipb_images-'. They will both end with either the '.xml' or '.xml.gz' file extension.
2. From 'Skins & Templates' in your Admin
Control Panel (ACP), click on 'Skin Import/Export'.
3. You will see the next screen on the right hand
side of your browser headed with 'Importing...'
You need to upload and import both skin package files separately (you cannot do these together).
Install (Upload) the Skin Template first by clicking the 'Browse' button. Select the file beginning with 'ipb_skin-' from your computer folder/disk location to upload.
Click the 'IMPORT SKIN XML' button after you can see the upload
link (path) in the box above. There will be a short pause while
your computer uploads the file to your forum.
If successful, you will get screen confirmation similar to what's above.
4. Repeat the above process. But this time, do
the same things with the image set. So, upload the file set from
your computer with the 'ipb_images-' at the beginning
of the file name.
Click the 'IMPORT SKIN IMAGES' button (again after ensuring the upload link text from your computer is showing in the text box line).
After successfully importing the images, you will see a screen
similar to this:
5. Before your newly imported skin works properly, you need to match up both the skin template and skin images file that you've now installed (uploaded) to your forum.
Do this by selecting the 'Skins & Templates', 'Skin Manager'
option:
From the right hand side of your browser screen, click on the skin
set name you've just installed (see below for example).
6. You will then see a separate pop up box menu
appear after you have clicked on the skin name set, click the 'Edit
Settings' text option.
After clicking successfully, the options below will now appear on your screen for the desired skin set.
We need to change the 'Image Options' to make our latest skin work
with its intended images.
7. From the drop down options box, use your mouse
to click on the desired image set (the last one you've just installed).
After selecting the needed image set for your imported skin, click
the 'Edit Skin Settings' box to complete and finalise the skin settings.
8. You're now finished and you've uploaded a complete
skin set for IPB 2.0!
The ACP should give you the confirmation 'Skin Settings Updated'
message just for further peace of mind so you know your new skin
has been altered properly.
Do you want to make your new skin the default look on the forum?
1. From the 'Skins & Templates' menu area
in the ACP once again click on the, 'Skin Manager' option.
2. Now, next to the skin set which you'd like to set as the default, click the 3rd button to the right next to the skin title name (shown in the right hand side window of your browser).
After doing so, the button will be highlighted against your chosen
skin meaning this skin set will be shown as the default forum board
look.
