Invision Power Board: Skin Installation for Versions 1.2 and 1.3

Easy skin import installation instructions for Invision Power Board (IPB) - Versions 1.2 and 1.3

New to installing a skin to your Invision Power Board? Then please read on!

How To Upload via FTP and CHMOD

After you have downloaded your 'skin pack' from NFHiB or other source(s), you will then need to upload the complete .tar package to your server web space. Make sure you upload the skin (in binary) in one tar file as saved, don't extract this (e.g. by using WinZip) first and then upload.

For more FTP help try FTP Planet.

1. By using your preferred FTP (File Transfer Protocol) program, you will then need to upload the set-nameoftheskin.tar (e.g. set-Purpleadium.tar) to the directory under your forum, which is called 'archive_in'. 'Tar' types of files are the only format of file you should upload to the archive_in folder.

2. Ensure that the CHMOD ('change mode' permissions) for the 'archive_in' directory are set to 777 - do this via your FTP Program. You should make sure that the 'set-nameoftheskin.tar' file is also changed to CHMOD 777 after it is uploaded to your server directory.

If CHMOD settings are not done correctly, your skin install will fail to work. You may be required to CHMOD other Invision Power Board directories at some point too, so be sure to check the IPB help documentation that came with the board's download for more information about this. Try IPB CHMOD for more help if needed.

How To Now you're ready to install the skin from the IPB: ACP (Administration Control Panel)

1. Once logged into the ACP, click on the 'Skins & Templates' section to expand that section if needed.

1

2. Under 'Manage Skin Sets' you will see the option to 'Import Skin files' - select this.

2

3. Then click on the 'Import' option text link.

6

There will be a short delay after you click the 'Import' link, this is quite normal. Your server and IPB is now extracting and creating the directories needed for your skin automatically.

4. Following a successful upload and CHMOD to the 'archive_in' folder, you will see your new skin package listed.

You've now successfully imported your new IPB skin and it's available for all your members to use on the forum board!

You can now safely delete the tar file from the 'archive_in' folder as it's no longer required (this also will save you some server space!).

How To Do you want to make your new skin the default look?

1. To make this newest skin the default version that shows on your forum - go to the 'Skins & Templates' section once again and click on the 'Manage Skin Sets' link. You will then be shown all of the skin sets currently installed on your board in list form.

3

2. Locate which skin you require and click the 'Edit' link next to it on the right hand side.

4

3. Right at the bottom of the properties on the page for the skin, you will be able to view the option to 'Set as default skin set?'

Select the button 'Yes' and then complete this action by clicking on the 'Edit Skin Set' button.

5

You have now set a skin as default on your forum and this will show for all members unless they choose to select a different skin option (if you have other skins installed) from their 'My Controls settings'.
